(1) The evolution of pollination strategies in epiphytic flowering plants have been strongly influenced by their habitat and spatial distribution.(2) Flowering epiphytes - bromeliads, orchids and cacti - are presented most commonly.(3) The lowest water permeabilities were observed with evergreen leaves from epiphytic or climbing plants naturally growing in a tropical climate.(4) Those plants which live as epiphytes in the rainforest canopy are subject to intense light and drying winds.(5) Dyssochroma belongs in the tribe Juanulloeae, a group composed of six genera of poorly known, rarely collected epiphytic shrubs and small trees distributed over the Neotropics.(6) Microstylis and its relatives, although often growing on the ground, have pseudobulbs (probably indicating epiphytic origins) and thus are really semi-terrestrial.(7) We conclude that leaf physiology has a greater impact on plant carbon gain than leaf and plant morphology in this epiphytic bromeliad.(8) The epiphytes hanging from the tree branches are either bromeliads or orchids.(9) A cool, bright spot out of direct sun is best for these tropical epiphytes that grow naturally in rain-forest trees.(10) Many tropical orchids are epiphytes , growing on the side of trees, and will not do well if their roots stay wet.
