(1) Like brisling , the sild is caught in the Northern Seas when the fish has grown to about 3-1 / 2 inches.(2) Most brisling is used in the canning industry where it is a familiar product as Norwegian-style anchovy.(3) The resultant sprats, seasoned and canned in oil, are sold as ‘ brisling ’.(4) So-called sardines from Denmark and Norway, for example, are usually brisling .(5) The sild sardines, not flavored as are the brislings , are a delightful product.
